Dorset Rural Roads Protocol
The Rural Roads Protocol, adopted as formal policy of Dorset County Council in April 2008, sets out a new approach to how we manage the roads in Dorset countryside. This work was initiated by a scoping report 'Reclaiming Our Rural Highways' commissioned by Dorset AONB in 2005. The protocol's main principle is to use the local setting and distinctiveness of the rural environment to guide our road management decisions.
