Outstanding

The South Dorset Ridgeway is incredibly special. Stretching from Broadmayne in the east to Long Bredy in the west this is a broad chalky ridge. Within its 14 square miles are at least 500 archaeological monuments, many of national significance, that provide evidence for human history for more than 6,000 years. The archaeological finds from some of these sites are on display at the Dorset County Museum in Dorchester. Archaeological surveys of the monuments will be taking place during the project.
The Ridgeway is also very beautiful, offering stunning scenery of the West Dorset Countryside and Jurassic Coast. The Ridge is part of the South West Coast Path National Trail, but includes many other short walks on around its valleys and villages.
